Well here we are at the last day's of 2005. I hope this year has been as good for you as it has been for us. I apologize for not posting since the 15th of December but I was on a much needed vacation. The wife and I went up to Virginia for a few days and had a great time. We even stopped by Virginia Tech University and let me say they have a very nice campus. There stadium was sharp looking as well. I will hopefully have pictures after the first of the year. Now about the Tide. We got Earl Alexander since we spoke last. I think that is a great pickup for the Tide. Football is going toward the more athletic QB and I think we are heading in a great direction with a kid like Alexander. Just a few more days till the Cotton Bowl. I really feel good about our preparation. Please remember to join Tide Blog on the 1st of January. We are going to have an all new look. This will be the last post with the old look. Come January 1st we will also be joined with new post by Mindless Ramblings and if we can locate Red Bama Hat ( He went on vacation and hasn't come back. RED BAMA HAT if you read this make sure to have your new post in by the 1st!) we will have a new post by him on the 1st. If not by then I have been assured he will post by the 2nd. Going on a little get away next week so this will probably be my last entry until after Christmas. I want to take this time to thank each and everyone of you for stopping by Tide Blog this year. I want to also thank my partners in this. Mindless Ramblings and Red Bama Hat. You would not believe the work these two guys do. They have truly made this site special. Speaking of Mindless Ramblings he is already on a much needed vacation so we will probably not hear from him until after Christmas as well. Now with all that being said.

The Day After.

Well here we are. The Day after the Big Tebow announcement. I don't know about the rest of you but I am in need of some good news. When Tebow said "The University of Florida" it was almost like seeing Brodie go down again against Auburn. It was just hard to take. All of this has put more pressure on Shula and company to win the bowl game. We must finish this season strong. A loss in the bowl game and I think recruiting takes some more serious blows. Finish the Season Strong!

T’was the night before Tebow and all through the town, not a creature was stirring not even a hound. The Cotton Bowl tickets were ordered on-line and it cost me all of my very last dime. When all of the sudden it becomes very clear, Chris Smelley is leaving, oh my, oh dear. I awoke from this nightmare to hear on ESPN. Tebow is coming! Let the Barn fear Bama again!

Slow Week....

I cannot believe that we are at the end of the College football season. Time flies when you are having fun and this year was fun. Now I know the last two games have left a bad taste in our mouths but let’s not forget where we were only 2 short years ago. We are getting better and that is what counts. Of course I say that with this small asterisk beside it. *Shula must beat AU soon. It is a must win game! Enough about next year though, still one more game on the horizon. The Cotton Bowl. This game is already being considered by some to be one of the games to watch. I think it should be a very interesting match up. I will have more about this game as it draws near. But I will say this. Bama should make sure they are a lot more prepared for this than they were against AU. If not it could be even uglier.

SEC Championship Game

Well the SEC Championship game is Saturday. Still can’t get over the fact that Bama is not in it. I guess there is always next year. This game could really be a good game though. I mean both teams have played a great game of Jekyll and Hyde this year. One week they are playing lights out, the next week I wish some one would turn the lights out so I wouldn’t have to watch. However I do feel like Georgia is the better team. LSU has too many problems with their receivers and drop balls. (Sound’s a lot like Bama doesn’t it?) Anyway expect a great game. Look for Georgia to pull it out in the end.

Who is playing better football?

After spending this weekend watching Georgia and LSU play their games. I started asking myself who I thought was playing the best football right now in the SEC. My answer may surprise some of you. Auburn. As much as I hate to admit it neither LSU nor Georgia could beat Auburn right now. They are just playing above everyone else. Now part of Allbarns success is the fact that they had practice games scattered throughout their schedule. I mean come on. Western Kentucky and Ball State, give me a break! But it actually helped them. Bama fans are screaming better non-conference games such as Penn St. and Notre Dame. I think we take the AU approach. Get some crappy teams in between your big games, work on some new wrinkles and get some other players some playing time. How much would some extra playing time have helped Taylor Britt? Anyway take our Poll and let us know what team you think is playing the best football in the SEC right now. Hope all is well.

Well why we all sit back today and let the turkey digest and watch Atlanta dominate the Lions. (27-0 Atlanta as I write this.) I thought I would post a poll question here. HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

Well the holidays are here. I just want to take this time to wish everyone a very Happy Thanksgiving. Also since I have your attention. A few house keeping items. I know some of you remember me saying we were going to add something special before the Auburn game. Well we were until the LSU loss. I figured then I would wait till next season for that surprise. So hang around for that. Also you may be wondering about Clay's Bama Page. Well we enjoyed having him on for the short time that he was here. However sometimes things comeup that no one can control. Clay has an awesome page so please continue to visit his page and when your done stop by and visit ours. You can find a link to his page under links on our home page.

Speaking of visits let me also take this opportunity to let you know how thankful we are that you all have stopped by. We have a lot more to say and we plan on saying it so please stop by often. This will be Tide Blog's first Basketball season coming up so we are not really sure yet how many post a week we will do but like always we will handle that as it comes. Crumble in the Jungle!

What happened Saturday afternoon at Auburn should never happen again. Saturday afternoon our program took a monumental step backwards. Saturday showed us not only a lack of preparation by our coaching staff but it also showed us a stubborn side of Shula and company. For whatever reason Shula feels he has to throw the Ball. It’s almost like he must pad Brodies stats regardless of the outcome. We come out running the football Saturday we may not win but at the very least we aren’t embarrassed. We were embarrassed Saturday. Memo to Shula: Darby wants the ball. GIVE IT TO HIM!!! Also let me say that it may be time to prepare for the future. I liked what I saw from John Parker Wilson Saturday. Maybe Shula should let him play most of the Bowl Game. As far as Brodie is concerned I feel that his head is just no longer in the game. Too many hits will do that to you. I still think with all that said the future could be a bright one. But also remember this. Bill Curry was fairly successful as Alabama’s coach however he never beat Auburn and this was his down fall. Shula is 0-3. For his sake he better be thinking a lot about that during the off season. The natives are becoming restless. This is never a good thing.

THE GAME!

Through the years of Alabama football one game has stood out above all others. That game is upon us this week. Alabama vs. Auburn, the Iron Bowl. Growing up in Central Alabama where the population was an even 50/50 split of both Bama and barn fans, this game could make your year sweet or very, very bitter. The Curry years were especially tough. Already just in writing this my stomach is beginning to ache and my heart is beating faster. I hate Auburn. Yes, more than the viles. I hate Auburn. I hate Pat Dye acting like a fool after beating Bama in ’89. I hate tiny Terry jumping around looking for someone to kiss in ’93. I hate remembering "the fumble" in ’97. I love Bama. I loved watching Rory Turner “wax the dude” in ’84. I loved the Kick in ’85. I loved watching Gene Stallings after putting Dye in retirement in ’92. I loved seeing Dennis Riddle in ’96. I loved watching Shaun Alexander run wild in ’99. I loved the butt whipping of 2001. So as you can see I love / I hate this game.

Now looking at this years game. The bottom line is this. I think Alabama has a better football team; however I think Auburn is playing better football. Alabama has been too caught up with Prothro and Closner being injured. They need to understand one or two men do not make a football team. A guy goes down another guy takes his place. Sounds simple, but that is just the way it is. You can’t cry about it and you can’t keep playing the “what if “ game you just keep playing football. With all that being said if Bama can get their heads on straight and focus for 60 minutes they win this football game. I think they can. I know they can. Bama wins this one. Alabama 17 Auburn 10. ROLL TIDE!!!

Disappointment!

Well the first loss is upon us. I sit here about as disappointed as I have ever been. I should have known. Bama can sometimes take you down Major disappointment alley. I should be used to it by now but I am not. I fell in the trap of thinking this was the year. That is my bad, I should have known better. Bama has got to get better on offense. I just hope we can beat Auburn. Disappointment, I hate it. Lucy has once again pulled the ball out from underneath us Charlie Brown. I should know better. Anyway let’s get back to what this season was all about to begin with.... Beating Auburn. We will see how well we are coached. This will show us what direction we are headed. AU has a good team. Maybe the best in the SEC. We win we show the world we are for real. We lose and and no one outside of Tuscaloosa remembers what a great season we had. Successful season depends on if you win or lose this one. That is just the way it is.

What about the Tide?

It seems that our lack of offense has turned into a national lack of respect by the media. Of course these are the same people who will say that LSU really isn't a good team after Bama hands them a loss Saturday. Truth is this. LSU is a good team but Bama is even better. The Tide will Roll this weekend. I can't wait to see what "the experts" say on Sunday.

Well here we are in November and Bama is undefeated. I really didn't expect such a great year. I'm not sure that many people did. The Miss. St. game went just as I expected. Close game with no offense. I knew what Miss. State's game plan was. "We can't beat them so hurt them." Well anyway we got out of there with the win and that is all that matters. LSU is coming to T-town this week. Looks like a #4 vs #5. I don't think Bryant Denny has ever had a top 5 matchup before. I hope T-town is ready this will be one heck of a game. LSU better be ready, I feel Bryant Denny will rock like never before. More about this game to come later this week. Until then.......ROLL TIDE ROLL!

Well Bama fans, brace yourself. I have a feeling this is going to be another nail biter. Bama just seems to always play to the level of it's competition and I think this week will be no different. Look for the Bulldogs to keep it close up until the end. Wouldn't be surprised to see us kick another last second field goal to win it. Be sure to put new batteries in your pace maker. Well it was a great non-conference homecoming win. Some players got to play who normally don't. That's what you like to see in games like that. However now we are back in SEC play. Sweet Home Alabama........! Homecoming on the campus of the greatest college football tradition. THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA. Looking for big things this weekend. Really feel that this is a perfect time for Bama to work on some offensive woes and get that high powered attack back on all cylinders. Looking forward to seeing some fresh faces in the lineup as well. Hopefully by halftime we will have enough of a lead for the starters to take a breather. Tide rolls this Saturday 35-7. Roll Tide. The joy of this weeks win over Tennessee is tremendous. I couldn't have been happier Saturday evening. Top it off with Auburn's loss and Saturday was just a wonderful day. Sunday I woke up thinking about what all of this meant in terms of the national picture. As I was watching ESPN's Sports Reporters they were talking about the BCS. I then heard what the national media is thinking. Basically it is to forget about the rest of the unbeatens. USC and Texas is all anyone wants to see. The sports reporters even mentioned Bama by saying "Who cares about them, what story do they have to tell." Well I tell you what story they tell. They tell the story of a group of young men, who were talented enough to go to any University they wanted. But they chose Alabama. They chose Alabama at a time when a huge black cloud hung over our program. They chose Alabama knowing that there would be years of no bowl game, no championships. They chose Alabama because they loved the Crimson Tide. No other reason. Yes there is a story here. A story about heart, about commitment, about passion, about football. No bright lights, no fairy tales, just hard work and determination. This mindset is what College football is all about. This mindset is what Alabama Football is all about. Coach Bryant said he ain't never been nothing but a winner. He would be proud of this group. Thank you Bama players! Soon enough ESPN will know what I do. There is a story here. A story of winners! The game of games will be played this weekend. Phat Phil and his band of thieves comes to t-town. This game has all the makings of a SEC defensive battle. But not so fast my friends. Bama's D will have Phat Phil running. Our offense will have some new wrinkles this week that will surprise all of us. So look for a big Bama win. The Tide crushes the Big Orange this weekend. It's Good! Ole Miss goes down on an Alabama last second field goal. I had worried about the Rebels since the clock hit zero on the Florida game. There they were right there parked in upset alley. Luckily though this Bama team is a good football team with some excellent leaders. Folks like Croyle and Darby that helped put together the game winning drive. This game will help us down the road and the road begins this weekend. The viles come to town. Phat Phil and his band of thieves come to t-town. I don't know that I have ever been more ready for a game. Bama is 6-0 and Tennessee is coming to town. I must be dreaming. Here's hoping this week the receivers work a lot harder and are better prepared for Saturday. I'll have more to say later this week. Right now. It's GOOD!

Ole Miss

Well before I talk about this weeks game let me get something off my chest. As I sit here today Mike Price is back in court as SI is trying to get there settlement back because Mike Price talks to much. I am so glad this guy is not our coach. It is obvious he has no clue about how to just do the right thing. I mean how much money has slipped through this mans hands because he refuses to do what people tell him to do. My advice to Mike Price is very simple. If you get to keep your money. Shut up and quit acting like your some poor innocent victim. You did this all to yourself. No one else.
O.k. Sorry about that. Now about this weeks game with Ole Miss. This game should tell us a lot about Bama. A good team remains focused. A good team handles adversity. With as much publicity as the Florida game has gotten as well as replacing Prothro we are dealing with both adversity and staying focused. I think the Tide will grade high in both areas. Look for a solid Bama win.

TGIGW (Thank God it's Game Week.) I am probably one of the few that hates an off week. I can't stand them. Especially this one. It was a week in which Bama either did one of two things. Get focused and ready for Ole Miss or spend the week reading the press clippings about how Bama is back and how we should just go ahead and award them the national championship. I hope we were focused. This game coming up could be as dangerous as any. I'll have more to say later this week. Lets see how practice goes.

Great Win but wait........

First let me start out by applauding the team with one of their greatest victories in a long time. My hats off to the players, and the coaches for a tremendous victory. I also want to take this time and congratulate our fans. I wasn't there, but from what I could see and hear on TV and the way the media has talked about it. Wow! What an atmosphere you all created. Thanks. A huge thank you goes out to Tyrone Prothro. I can't wait to see you next year. Now on to the other stuff........
I know we have an off week this week. I have been told to sit back and enjoy this week. I can't. I've got my mind on some Mississippi Rebels. Ole Miss being in between a great win versus Florida and a visit from the 'viles puts Ole Miss in the drivers seat heading down upset alley. We better keep our eyes open. One game at a time Bama, one game at a time.

FLORIDA

Well Bama Fans. The test is here. It's the Biggest game of the year. I started out this week extremely confident. However, now I am a nervous wreck. I still think the Tide can win but they will have to play a flawless game. This Urban Meyer team is packed full of superstar athletes on both sides of the ball. Not to mention the fact that some of those are from our own state. I feel that we can win this game, but I tell you where the win comes from. It won't be the offensive line, Brodie or Darby. It will be the Tide's D. If we can keep Leak from finding his target easily and our D'line and Linebackers put some pressure on him I think we win. We must be aware of Florida's receivers they are really good and run great routes! The Tide will Roll Saturday, have faith BAMA fans.

That is all I have to say. Arkansas worried me all week and I am just so glad that we came out of this weekend with a win. I heard a lot of people saying as I left the Stadium Saturday (Yes, I got to go to one. ) about how disappointed they were. All I could think of is how if they would have read Tide Blog this week they would have known the game would have been close. I left the stadium with a smile on my face. We won. It wasn't to long ago we weren't winning. Enjoy it Tide Fans. Later this week I will discuss Florida. I see it happening now. People leaving Bryant-Denny this Saturday afternoon not really knowing how to act. We won, but barely. Here we were coming off a sound beating of South Carolina in a game that was never that close and now we just get by Arkansas. How does a team that got killed by the USC Trojans come back and play the mighty Tide that close. Some will even wonder if we are really that good. I see it happening Tide Fans. I see that a lot of you are setting yourself up for major disappointment. I'm not going to talk to you about x's and o's. I going to talk to you about the history of Bama the last 20 years. If history repeats itself, then Bama will struggle. Arkansas has always been a pain in our side. Don't get me wrong. We are a good team and we will win Saturday. But beating South Carolina like we did does not make us USC. We have a lot of work to do. Arkansas getting 70 put on them does not make them Lomax High School. They are still Arkansas. I said in my previous post that Bama was Back. They are. Just be prepared for a close game Saturday. Don't be disappointed if we win in the 4th Quarter. Remember a win is a win.

Signature Win? YES!

I have a feeling that this week a lot of people will be discussing whether this weeks win over South Carolina was Shula's "Signature Win." Well I will give you my two cents (Which I always do!). Yes, this was the win we have been waiting for. Now I know some of you will not be happy until it is a Tennessee or an Auburn. But you see you have to start somewhere. You have to have that moment when you play a game that you believe you can play with a Tennessee or an Auburn. South Carolina was that moment. South Carolina was the moment that Shula put his signature on the Alabama program as head coach. It was the moment that will start many more moments. Remember this win Bama fans. For you see this was the win, this was the moment, this was Alabama Football. I sum it up with this. I will say it and remember that I did. Ladies and Gentlemen, BAMA IS BACK!

Wow, what a week! Mindless and Red Bama Hat called me to remind me that today was Friday. Time has flown this week. I guess that is a good thing. Wow! What a catch! Tyrone Prothro made "The Catch" and thank goodness he did. This one catch turned the game around. With that catch we went into the locker room down 4. Had we went into the half down 11 we would have lost the game. That Simple. Now if don't mind let me rant a little. I will call this rant "Mike what are you thinking?". First, I thought Ryan Saxby did an excellent job kicking against Middle Tennessee. Jamie Christensen comes in against Southern Miss. and his kicks look terrible. Give Saxby the job! Second, take Chris Capps out and let Cody Davis show Chris how it is done. Davis is just a lot more stable on the line. Well that's it for my rant. Coming later in the week I will discuss the South Carolina game. Let me say this though. We better play better next Saturday, if not it will be a long evening.

BAMA VS USM

Well here we are at week 2. Its hard to talk about the matchups for a week 2 game when 1 team hasn't played a game yet. But I think this game will be a nail biter. USM always plays Bama tough and I believe at the half you could see a 7-7 ballgame. However I believe in the 2nd half we will be able to overpower them with our running game and I predict a 28-7 Bama victory. Some news, just in case you haven't already heard. Freshman running back Roy Upchurch is out for the season after undergoing surgery to repair a bone defect. He is expected to make a full recovery. I also hated to hear about Jake Wingo having to give up Football due to suffering to many concussions. The Wingo family has done so much for the Crimson Nation and I know that even though Jake can no longer play the game he loves, we Bama fans are grateful for what he has done to help the program. Thanks Jake and Roll Tide!

Well it was a win. That is about all you can say about it. Now Let me say I love a win, but for whatever reason it was about as boring of a game that I have ever seen. I found myself actually yawning in the 3rd quarter. I don't know. Something about Saturday just didn't feel right. I hope this Saturday feels different. As far as the performance goes. On offense the word that comes to mind is vanilla. I felt we were just going through the motions without any emotion. That seemed to be a problem last year. No emotion coming out of the gate. Makes we wonder if the pre-game speech sounds like this, "Bueller, Bueller." Defense looked aggressive. Got burned on one play that resulted in a TD, but I will chalk that up to it being the first game. Overall it was a C+ performance. Southern Miss is not MTSU. We better pick it up.

ALABAMA VS MTSU

It’s Here! It’s Here! FOOTBALL SEASON IS HERE! It is about time.
MTSU is a good football team. I think we will be able to gauge what kind of team we have with this game. I’m anxious to see how the OL holds up. I want to see how well Croyle, Darby, and others have healed. I think by late Saturday night we should have a lot of questions that we have answered. I am hoping to see a Bama team that is firing on all cylinders and I think we will. I am looking for a great balanced attack on offense as well as a great defensive performance. Put those together and we have a Bama win. On Tide Blog’s prediction page you see that I have chosen Bama to win. Now let me tell you the score. Bama 35 MTSU 14. ROLL TIDE !!!!!

The Year is 1985

20 years. That is how long it has been since a guy named Shula led The University of Alabama to one of its most exciting seasons in Bama History. That year (1985) was amazing. The comeback wins against Georgia, and of course “The Kick” who could forget that. The reason I mention all this is because now it is 20 years later and we are being led by a guy named Shula. I can’t help but wonder. Will history repeat itself? Is there a modern day Al Bell, and Van Tiffin just waiting in the wings? Is there a Cornelius Bennett just waiting to knock some heads , a big defensive lineman like Jon Hand, or a wide out with the heart of Greg Richardson? Oh, how I hope history can repeat itself. An epic battle with the Vols. (This time we win.), the Bengal Tigers. Running backs with the grace of Bobby Humphrey, and the speed of Gene Jelks. Plays like reverses, and half back passes that keep opposing defenses reeling. I tell you the memories are as fresh today as back then. What a year 1985 was, what a year 2005 will be. “The clock will not start until the ball is snapped, this will be a 52 yard try. Here is the snap, the kick, it has distance, it’s good! , it’s good! Alabama has beaten Auburn.”

Well I know you have been waiting on this week’s surprise. Well it is this. I went to the scrimmage Monday.
First things First. It was Hot. I mean Hot! So I ask those with the power, for the love. Just put the scrimmages on TV as well. I mean I would have paid an extra $20.00 bucks to watch from Home. Anyway enough about my suffering. (Yes, I know the players had it worse than me. But I am selfish and do not care!)
Alright here are some of my impressions of the scrimmage.

Offense: To begin with I did not go in wondering how Brodie was going to do. He did just what I expected, he was awesome, and his performance was not my concern. My concern is what happens this year if Brodie goes down again. Well I tell you what happens. We still win. I thought John Parker Wilson looked great. He plays with a lot of confidence and he has a really strong arm. He made some great reads of the defense. I think anyone coming in will have to work really hard to overthrow this guy for #1 next year. I liked the play of our Running Backs. Coffee, Upchurch, and Townsend all played well. Also for those wondering. DARBY IS BACK! He looked great for the little amount of time he was in. Hat’s off to the Coaching staff for restricting his playing time. Offensive line looked really good to be so young.
Defense: Looked fantastic. Couldn’t ask for a quicker, smarter group. Coach Kines keep it up.
Special Teams: If there is negative to this team that could hurt us it is special teams. To me Jeffrey Aul is the punter to beat. If something happens to him I think we are better off just to go for it on 4th down. Seriously, it was Bad. Jeffrey had some great punts. He just lacks consistency. Place kicking wasn’t much better but I think Jamie Christensen is the guy to beat in that area. I couldn’t help but wonder where the Tiffin’s, Moore’s, Doyle’s , and others have gone. We really need to recruit in these areas.
Overall: Of all the A-days, scrimmages, and other various practices that I have attended in the past 8 years. I thought this was one of the best. We seemed focused, the play calling was effective and above all the athletes we have are really more athletic than we have had in at least the last 5. I was pleased. Not ready for a prediction yet. But Pleased. Until next week.

O.k. let me get this out of the way. Yes. Auburn had a great year last year. The reason I write this is because something came across my desk last week that I want to share with you. So listen up all you Awbarn fans. Cause this will be the last time I mention you in a positive light.

As the new season approaches and after Auburn's magical season last year, it is only right that we reflect on their history and answer the question:

What is Auburn Football?
It is the 1/2 national championship in 113 years of playing football It is sharing a mascot with numerous junior high and pee-wee football teams It is the smile on Ben Leard's face after throwing an interception that lost the 1998 Virginia game It is the feeling of anticipation during the walk down Wire Road from your railer to "The Jungle".
It is having a cute little nickname like "The Jungle" for Jordan-Hare. It is putting up a banner for losing the tie-breaker for the Western Division title It is throwing a parade for finishing second Again, it is throwing a parade for finishing second It is and always will be about "Keep it down home, cuz" It is about having a cute slogan like "AttitUde" or "AUdacity" in order to fire up your fans.

It is the 1/2 national championship in 113 years of playing football It is the hope that one day; Auburn will win a national title without sharing it or being on probation. It is knowing that if the Tigers finish second, it will be OK because they will throw a parade anyway It is living up to every stereotype about Auburn by letting the players ride on hay bails during that "victory" parade It is accepting the National Title from the only person who will give it to Auburn, a 16 year old kid with an AOL account.
